Today, our last full day on Kaua’i, was fairly laid back, but also came with a few errands to run. I had contemplated using this as our scooter make-up day, but in the end was pretty glad we didn’t since I’m not sure we would have had time for our various acquisition runs.
We started the morning with an early trip to snorkel on the South Shore at Lawai Beach. “Early” is relative, since we got there around 9:15, just before low tide, but it was one of the earliest times we left the condo this trip, except for the swamp hike day. See! No Death March here! At least not a sustained, days-long one.
We had never snorkeled at this location before, but it was recommended yesterday by Levi, our photo tour guide. Since the tide timing was with us, we decided to give it a go. And it was a very good place to snorkel. There were lots of fish there, some schooling in larger groups than we’ve ever seen before on other snorkel trips, where they have tended to hang out singly or in pairs.
We both saw several types of fish that we had never seen before.
Of course, between the fish swimming one way, and the waves moving me another, it was sometimes quite difficult to get a photo. There was one kind of blue-green polka dotted guy who moved way too fast and darted under a rocky area never to be seen by me again.
Unfortunately, we weren’t lucky enough to see any sea turtles this time around, but that was just the luck of the draw and I’m sure another time we’d have better luck. Definitely worth coming back for more snorkeling on future trips.
We stayed at the beach about an hour and a half before heading back to Kapa’a, making a couple of quick stops on the way to begin our Errands of Acquisition. These continued after lunch and a shower, and took enough time that, before we knew it, it was getting to be late afternoon.
Rather than go out for dinner, we got some take-out and spent a little time starting to pack and generally prepare ourselves for the long flight tomorrow. I have definitely missed the kitties, but it’s been a great trip, and I’m not sure I’m really ready to return to the daily grind. Fortunately, since we’re getting back right before Labor Day weekend, we have a couple of days to catch that wave before heading back to work.
